So what actually keeps people watching a webinar

March 31st, 2026

Most webinars don’t lose attention because of content. They lose it because of energy.

Some people think the slides in a webinar is what powers their story. But slides don’t hold attention, especially not in today’s visual overload, they give the webinar structure. It is the people that hold your attention.

In a live stream the speaker is the connection between the message and the audience. Speaking during a webinar is very different from speaking in a meeting. And webinars are not presentations…they are more like multi-dimensional conversations.

Professional speakers will make things easy to follow through clarity. They understand rhythm, and they use this by varying speed, tone and structure. They bring intentional energy to a life stream. This can be calm, like an authority or with great enthusiasm. But it will be felt.

Speakers create moments where the audience feels involved. They do this by asking a questions, or pausing and acknowledging the viewer. It is their presence that makes the audience feel they are “there”.

In a webinar, the speaker is the brand in that moment. When a speaker grabs you, the story is heard. Some great webinars will be remembered. And a series of those great webinars will build a relationship with your audience.
